Boko Haram: 10 Hideouts Destroyed, Suicide Bomber Kills 7, Militants Retake Town
ICC Note: Militant Islamist terror group Boko Haram is proving they still pose a major threat to Christians in northern Nigeria. While the Nigerian military has successfully reclaimed most of the territory Boko Haram originally captured in their quest to create an Islamic State in Africa, the militants have re-surged with recent suicide attacks. The latest episode happened in Damaturu and was perpetrated by a female suicide bomber. Observers fear Boko Haram is using female captives to carry out these attacks.
5/18/15 Sambisa Forest, Nigeria (BBC) – Nigeria’s army says it has cleared 10 more camps used by Boko Haram in the north-east of the country.
There was a fierce battle around Dure camp, which a statement describes as one of the most “prominent” hideouts for the militants.
Boko Haram has not yet commented on the army statement and there has been no independent confirmation.
The army has recaptured most of the vast area the militants had seized but the Islamists remain active.
Thousands have been killed, mostly in north-eastern Nigeria, in attacks carried out by Boko Haram since 2009.
