ICC Note: Nigeria has elected Muslim Muhammadu Buhari to the presidency and Christians, particularly in Nigeria’s north and central regions wonder what this means for their safety and freedom to profess Christ. Christians in northern Nigeria face constant attack from extremist Muslim militants Boko Haram, while Christians in Nigeria’s “middle-belt” are regularly massacred by Muslim Fulani herders bent on purging the land of Christians.

4/3/2015 Nigeria (OneNewsNow) – Now that Nigeria has elected a Muslim to be president, concerns are being raised over what that means for Christians living there.

Thanks to his strong support in the north, Retired General Muhammadu Buhari defeated incumbent Goodluck Jonathan in Nigeria’s March 28 presidential election.

Troy Augustine, regional manager of Africa for the Christian watchdog groupInternational Christian Concern, says believers in Nigeria have been under the crosshairs of persecution for a long time, but ironically some Christians cast their vote for the Muslim candidate.
