ICC Note: As ISIS continues to escalate in brutality, some of their militants have shifted their focus toward the children and families of the Yazidi sect as well as Christian communities. The UN has received reports describing the rape, crucifixion, beheadings of children in addition to others being buried alive. According to reports, among those unwilling to convert to Islam, ISIS has shown little discrimination in the choosing of their targets, with victims ranging from infants to the elderly.

“They’re using the sword to cut off hands and beheading others,” one older man told Mitchell. “I don’t think this is the behavior of human beings, but wild animals do that.”
