In August, ICC’s Advocacy Department met directly with U.S. and U.N staff on the ground in Northern Iraq to discuss the situation for the hundreds of thousands of people made homeless by ISIS attacks. Despite tens of millions of dollars spent, we found that very little aid was actually reaching the Christian community in Iraq. After returning to the U.S., we reported what we had found to key Congressional offices and the State Department, pointing out the need for international funds to go directly to NGO’s on the ground, rather than the United Nations. On September 10th, the U.S announced it would send an additional $48 million to displaced victims of ISIS. $28 million would go directly to NGO’s on the ground so it could reach people with real aid as quickly as possible.
