A Court of Appeals in Sri Lanka has decided to allow the mass deportation of Pakistani and Afghan refugees after suspending a interim hold on the measures in mid-August. Many of these refugees are Christians seeking refuge from intense persecution they face back in their native countries. The UN High Commission on Refugees has called Sri Lanka’s mass deportations a violation of international customary law because Sri Lanka is forcing people to return to countries where they face a significant threat of harm.
