In the last year and a half, over 90 Christian girls in Pakistan have had their lives transformed by going through ICC’s Vocational Training Centers. Christian women who graduate from our training program leave with a job skill, equipment and inventory to start a business, and small business training. After graduating, they are able to provide for their families while avoiding jobs that would otherwise expose them to abuse and persecution. Is Pakistan a safe haven for Christians fleeing the Taliban... or an even worse nightmare?
Sardar (not pictured) was abducted by the Taliban en route to the border and held until his family could pay a ransom.
They managed to scrape the money together, devastating them financially. Once in Pakistan, Sardar and his family were not well received. Like nearly all refugees, they faced hunger and poor living conditions. With no means of work, they were at the mercy of Pakistan’s refugee system.
After suffering for a time, Sardar and his family considered it better to return to Afghanistan. The fact that he had been subjected to the Taliban’s cruelties firsthand and still decided to go back illustrates the dreadful state of Afghan refugees in Pakistan.
