On July 1, 2009, Danial a Christian living in Pakistan was falsely accused of blasphemy for ‘destroying a Quran’ by his neighbor shopkeeper. A mob of enraged Muslims gathered at his home where they dragged Danial into the street and beat him and his brother Aziz. Danial was sentenced to life imprisonment on January 11, 2010 under Pakistan’s controversial blasphemy laws. Danial is currently languishing in prison and waiting for his appeal to be heard by the Lahore High Court.
Due to Danial’s imprisonment, his family has been forced to move their shop and have struggled to make ends meet. With your support, in December 2013, ICC was able to assist Danial’s family by providing them with goods and inventory to sell in their new shop. Also, ICC is exploring the possibility of covering the expenses it would take to allow Danial’s family to visit him in prison and to hire a new lawyer to head up his appeal. Please continue to pray for justice for Danial and God’s provision for his family. PHOTO: Danial’s family after receiving the second installment of assistance from ICC.
