ICC Note: An Iranian Christian, who had been held for more than six months without being charged, has been released from prison. Sevada Aghasar had been arrested in August of this past year while meeting together with two other believers, one of whom was set to report to prison a few days later to begin serving a sentence.
03/05/2014 Iran (Mohabat News) – Sevada Aghasar, an Armenian-Iranian Christian was released on bail, while another prisoner of conscience, Alireza Seyyedian returned to prison after his leave period. Sevada Aghasar spent 190 days in prison.
According to « Mohabat News», Sevada Aghasar was released from Evin prison on March 02, 2014.
Mr. Aghasar, spent over six months behind bars, before he was released from ward 350 of Evin prison.
He had been arrested on August 21, 2013 together with Masoud Mirzaei, a Christian convert resident of Karaj and Ebrahim Firouzi of Robat-Karim. They had gathered in Masoud Mirzaei’s office in Karaj when plain-clothes security authorities raided the office and arrested them without presenting a warrant.
Mr. Aghasar was never officially charged, but evidence suggest that his arrest is related to his online contact with a number of Farsi-speaking Christians.
Mr. Aghasar is an Iranian-Armenian Christian and a member of the Gregorian Church.
Earlier than his arrest, Iranian security authorities had searched his house and confiscated his personal belongings, in relation to the case of another Christian convert, Mostafa Bordbar.
