Cardinal Asks Pakistan to Pardon Christian
ICC Note: Vatican Cardinal Roger Echegaray has asked Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari to pardon Asia Bibi, a Christian mother who was sentenced to death by hanging in November 2010 for allegedly insulting Mohammad. “Asia Bibi, is the first woman in Pakistan sentenced to death under a law on blasphemy,” The Voice of Russia reports.
2/07/2013 Pakistan (RUVR) -Influential Vatican Cardinal Roger Echegaray has asked the president of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari to pardon a Christian woman sentenced to death.
The woman, Asia Bibi, is the first woman in Pakistan sentenced to death under a law on blasphemy.
Asia was arrested in June 2009 after an argument with another woman in her village who claimed that drinking water, passed to one by a Christian was a sin, because Gentiles are “unclean”.
