07/25/2012 Nigeria (christianpost)- On July 7, about 100 members of the Church of Christ in Nigeria were killed by an extremist Islamic group known as Boko Haram. Open Doors News reports that some 50 members of the church had fled their homes and gathered at the home of their pastor. But gunmen opened fire on them, killing the pastor, his wife, his children and many others. The home was then set ablaze.
Church officials estimated that 100 Christians were killed in attacks in 12 villages throughout Nigeria. The church buildings were burned in all of the villages. It is a dire situation for Christian believers in the nation; over the course of the last decade, about 40 Church of Christ pastors have been killed in Nigeria, according to reports.
“Nigeria is truly becoming the new killing field for Christians. Hundreds of Christians have already been brutally murdered — including women and children — by the Boko Haram,” Open Doors USA spokesman Jerry Dykst told the Christian Post.
