Nigerian Gov’t Not Protecting Citizens

05/13/2011 Nigeria (OneNewsNow)-Muslim radicals recently attacked and killed 17 Christians, contributing to an ongoing rampage against believers since the country adopted sharia law.

Jonathan Racho of International Christian Concern (ICC) tells OneNewsNow the attack is part of a series of violent assaults against Christians in Nigeria — a country that has not protected its citizens.

“It’s so outrageous when you see a government that doesn’t act to protect its own citizens,” Racho contends. “One of the reasons for which people need government is because government protects citizens. But in the case of Nigeria, especially the northern part, the Nigerian government has actually failed to protect Christian minorities.”

Since sharia law was introduced in the country in 1999, Muslims have killed thousands of Christians, but officials have not rightly prosecuted the attackers. The ICC spokesman points out that several states in the country practice sharia law.

So in response to the recent happening, ICC is encouraging believers to contact the Nigerian embassy to urge officials to investigate the attack and prosecute the attackers
