“Copts called for a demonstration Friday in response to Salafi religious intolerance and violence against Egypt’s Christian minority,” Al Masry Al Youm reports.

5/4/2011 Egypt (Al Masry Al Youm) – At an organized vigil in front of the Saint Mark’s Cathedral in Cairo on Wednesday, scores of Copts called for a demonstration Friday in response to Salafi religious intolerance and violence against Egypt’s Christian minority.

The demonstration comes after Salafis organized a sit-in outside the church last Friday to demand the release of Camilia Shehata, a priest’s wife who is thought to have converted to Islam and allegedly detained by the Coptic Church.

Coptic activist Ramy Kamel said the demonstration would take the form of a prayer before Pope Shenouda’s weekly sermon.
