4/25/2011 Indonesia (M&CNews) – Indonesian police have arrested a local television cameraman for suspected involvement in a failed plot to bomb a church near Jakarta on Good Friday, a spokesman said Saturday.

The cameraman for Global TV channel had been recruited by the alleged plotters to film the planned bombing of the Christ Cathedral in Serpong, just west of Jakarta, said national police spokesman Boy Rafly Amar.

On Thursday, police found several bombs near the church, some installed in a gas pipeline, after arresting 19 suspected militants.

Police said the bombs had been timed to explode at 9 am on Friday when Christian worshippers arrived at the church to celebrate their holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Police said the alleged plotters appeared to belong to a new militant cell and were self-radicalized.

Indonesia is the world’s largest Muslim-majority country. Christians make up about 10 per cent of the 240 million population.
