Giving hope to persecuted Christians since 1995

Christian detainees are under immense physical and psychological pressure to appear on TV and admit to criminal activities against the Islamic Republic. They must confess to having been involved with other countries such as Israel, and the United Kingdom.

ICC Note:

“After the recent sweeping wave of arrests and imprisonments of Christians across the country in cities such as Hamadan, Tehran, Mashhad, Isfahan, Ahvaz, Rasht, …; with the Revolutionary Guards in the forefront of the assault, various intelligence agencies of the Islamic Republic have renewed their anti-Christian propaganda with the express aim of creating an atmosphere of fear against Christianity in the country; and thus gather evidence for their spurious charges,” Farsi Christian News Network reports.

4/14/2011 Iran, Turkey (Farsi Christian News Network) – Following the recent wave of aggressive intimidation, and imprisonment of Christians in the Islamic Republic; the intelligence gathering arm of its Revolutionary Guards has become very busy collecting information about those few who have escaped the shackles of the Islamic Regime reaching Turkey. This information would then will be used to manipulate, accuse and denounce the helpless ones languishing inside the notorious prisons of the Islamic Republic.

Quoting Christian-Iranians from Turkey, FCNN reports that after the recent sweeping wave of arrests and imprisonments of Christians across the country in cities such as Hamadan, Tehran, Mashhad, Isfahan, Ahvaz, Rasht, …; with the Revolutionary Guards in the forefront of the assault, various intelligence agencies of the Islamic Republic have renewed their anti-Christian propaganda with the express aim of creating an atmosphere of fear against Christianity in the country; and thus gather evidence for their spurious charges.

According to reports received, detainees are under immense physical and psychological pressure to appear on TV and admit to criminal activities against the Islamic Republic, as well as highly controversial personal conduct within the underground church.

Interrogators insist that these “trial by TV “programs should contain detailed confessions about American involvement and Christian churches dependence on them. Furthermore; they must confess to having been involved with other countries such as Israel, and the United Kingdom.

Insidious accusations of socially unacceptable behaviour, and improper conduct, such as widespread illicit affairs amongst church members, particularly misuse of trust of female members by church elders, are some of the other favourite, age-old practice by Islamists, charges that the Islamic regime is keen to have included in these sham TV confessions.

In order to gather more intelligence which may be of some use for the purpose of “proving” the charge of Christians dependence on foreign countries that the Islamic Republic has self-proclaimed to be its enemies; agents of the regime, armed with information forced from hapless prisoners, have been dispatched to Turkey, and have become particularly active during the first months of 2011.

Following the unprecedented level of intimidation, harassment, arrests, and imprisonment, the ranks of fleeing Christians have been infiltrated by the agents of the Islamic Republic posing as refugees. They try to elicit names and addresses of other Christians and / or family members still under the yoke of the Islamic Republic; to later be used in their TV confessions, show trials, and kangaroo courts.

In order to achieve their second goal of “proving” improper conduct amongst Underground church members, many of Christian sisters imprisoned in the cities across the Islamic Republic are pressured to confess to illicit affairs with, or to bring charges of sexual harassment against, male members of the group. Particular and favourite targets are the underground church leaders. Many of these leaders have themselves been under arrest, having suffered long periods of imprisonment without charge.

A great deal of time, money, and energy is being wasted in an all out attempt to obtain personal and private details about the life and relationships of the refugees and their background, families, and friends back home. These will then be used by interrogators in the Islamic Republic’s prisons against Christian brothers and sisters held in the clutches of the regime, to weaken their resolve by showing the extent and power of the oppressive measures employed by the Islamic Regime; to destroy their will to resist, and to then get them to go on TV to “testify” and “confess”.

These televised “confess and repent” sessions, which are taped in specially staged question and answer  programmes, in closed studios inside the dreaded prisons of the Islamic Republic; became a staple diet of propaganda in the state-run Islamic TV, during the great wave of terror against political opponents of the regime in the 1980s.

Victim is invariably held in isolation for long periods, undergoing harrowing physical and psychological torture. The aim is to break their resolve and bring the hapless prisoner in front of the camera to then confess to “crimes” committed, condemn him/her self for having fallen victim to the sinful ideology; and then to tearfully and full of regret; ask for forgiveness from an unmerciful master.

They need to prove to their religious masters, in particular the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Khamenei, that otherwise the country will turn away from Islam, becoming the first secular anti-Islamic country in the region and opening the floodgates of change in the whole Islamic world. Here the aim is to scare these self-opinionated, dictatorial men to allocate even more of the country’s dwindling resources than that which they already control.

The spokesperson for the European Committee for Defence of Iranian-Christians says:

“Since the first wave of arrests was official broadcast from the Islamic TV in Sep. Of 2010, in which Underground Christian missionaries were labelled “Thieves of Faith”, over 200 Christians in more than 23 cities across the country have been arrested. Often spending long periods of time in jail without even being informed of charges against them. Only a few have been allowed out, but always after having been forced to pay financially ruinous bonds of tens of thousands of dollars; obviously the Islamic Regime’s own currency is not considered worthy of the effort.
