Conditional Release of a Christian Couple from Prison in Mashhad after Bail Bond is Posted!

Arrested for organizing and participating in house church services, a Christian couple in Mashhad were temporarily release from prison after posting bail, Mohabat News reports.

2/22/2011 Iran (Mohabat News) – This Christian couple who were arrested by the secret security police in charges of belief in the Christian faith, organizing, and participating at home-based church were allowed to post a bail bond and be temporarily released from detention center in Mashhad.

According to reports received by the Iranian Christian News Agency, “Mohabat News”, this Christian couple identified as “Hassan Razavi Derakhshi”, an accountant by profession, and his wife, “Parya Jamali”, a retired school teacher who were arrested by secret police agents in the city of Mashhad, Iran’s most religious and fanatical Shiite center, which is about 800 km North West of Tehran, on December 27, 2010 were conditionally released after 35 days of detention after agreeing to post a bail bond.

Sources close to the family have reported that the charges brought against this couple have been conversion to the Christian faith and the organizing and participation in home-based prayer and worship meeting at their residence. Also, it has been alleged that on December 22, 2010, the couple in question organized a celebration of Christmas at their home.

The couple must await their upcoming court hearing. The arrest and detention of this couple is a continuation of the recent wave of harsh and repressive measures the Islamic Republic government has adopted in order to completely suppress and prevent the growth of Christianity inside Iran. More than 60 Christian have been arrested and detained in Tehran and several other cities in Iran.
