ICC Note:

A bomb attempt on a church in Mosul, Iraq was foiled by Iraqi police on Thursday, DPA reports.

1/6/2011 Iraq (DPA) – Iraqi police said Thursday they foiled an attempt to bomb a church in Mosul, located some 400 km north of Baghdad.

A security source said they found six improvised explosive devices and belts ladened with explosives near the church.

The Chaldean Orthodox church, where the suspected attack was to take place, celebrates Christmas Jan 7 with evening mass Thursday night.

Mosul is among the most ethnically diverse and dangerous cities in Iraq, where insurgents mount near-daily attacks.

Just last week, two separate attacks on security killed nine policemen and a military commander.
