9/21/2010 Egypt (MEMRI blog) – The summer of 2010 has seen a rise in tensions between Muslims and Copts in Egypt, due to the disappearance of Camilia Shehata Zakher, the wife of a Coptic priest who converted to Islam and is now allegedly being held incommunicado by the Church. Camilia quickly became a cause celebre in Islamist circles both within Egypt and beyond, and some salafi jihadis have even urged the use of kidnappings and murder in an attempt to free her. In 2004 the case of Wafa Constantine, another priest’s wife who converted to Islam, led to widespread clashes between Christians and Muslims.
