The leader quoted Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s speech to the Constituent Assembly on May 26, 1949: “If you seek to give safeguards to a minority, you isolate it. Maybe you protect it to a slight extent but at what cost – at the cost of isolating it and keeping it away from the main current… This way lies not only folly but disaster.” Describing it as communalising development, Naidu said the wooing of the Muslim community was couched in the language of minority welfare.
