Egypt: EU Condemns Attacks on Churches and Places of Worship
1/29/2010 Egypt, EU (AllAfrica.com) – The Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) Secretariat has welcomed the adoption by the European Parliament of a resolution condemning recent attacks on Christian communities in Egypt and Malaysia.
The EU urged the Egyptian government to “guarantee that Coptic Christians and members of other religious communities and minorities enjoy the full range of human rights and fundamental freedoms– including the right to choose and change their religion freely– and to prevent any discrimination against them.”
75 percent to 85 percent of all the religious persecution in the world is directed towards people of Christian faith and each year 170,000 Christian people lose their lives because of their faith, while the total number of faithful who are brutally persecuted amounts to 200 million.
