28 Colombian Christians Imprisoned
Christian Solidarity Worldwide first broke the story in November, and along with Open Doors International, has been working with the Colombian government to resolve the situation. However, to date Colombia has not intervened.
ICC’s Regional Manager, Logan Maurer, said, “By refusing to act, and allowing Christians to be imprisoned, the Colombian government has shown that it is willing to ignore its own Constitution and its international agreements including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the ICCPR, the ICSECR, and the American Convention on Human Rights, all of which explicitly protect the right of the individual to choose their own faith and convert of their own free will. There has been more than enough time for Colombia to address this untenable situation. Just because these injustices are happening in an indigenous community does not mean these people do not have basic human rights.”
