Sharia: government to act if Dutch law broken

The government of Holland promises to clamp down on attempt to practice Sharia law if such attempt involves compulsion, pressure and misuse of power.

09/02/2009 the Netherlands (DutchNews.nl)-Attempts to practise aspects of sharia (Islamic) law in the Netherlands which involve compulsion, pressure and a misuse of power will be clamped down hard on by the government, justice minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin told MPs on Tuesday.

The cabinet’s job is to ensure that the Netherlands does not develop ‘a parallel society in which people take the law into their own hands or maintain their own legal system which operates outside the framework of our own legal system’, the minister said.
