State Department urged to help Iraqi Christians
ICC Note
“The Iraqi Christians are some of the early Christians, and yet they are being wiped out,”
04/08/2009 Iraq (Assyria Times)-Congressman Frank Wolf is calling on the U.S. State Department to develop a comprehensive policy to address what he calls “the unique plight” of ancient Christian communities in Iraq .
Wolf says the American embassy should advocate for Iraqi Christians and use its resources to help. Wolf says the Christian minority “is being wiped out.”
He says Christians in Iraq face dire conditions. ” Mosul is one of the most difficult areas, and that’s the heavy Assyrian, Chaldean, Christian area,” he notes. “And it’s very, very grim.”
The Virginia lawmaker says Assyrians and other Christians in Iraq are a part of biblical history. “The Iraqi Christians are some of the early Christians, and yet they are being wiped out,” he adds.
