Midnight mass to be worry-free affair

ICC Note: Churches in the “Silicon Valley” of India are installing security cameras and hiring private churches to ensure incident-free Christmas services.

12/21/08 Bangalore, India (The Times of India) – There’s nip in the air and the spirit of Yuletide is sweeping across Bangalore with the Christian community preparing for the season with prayers, festivities and piety. The Christmas-eve midnight mass will be held amid strict police vigil.

The city is home to about 5 lakh Christians from 350-odd churches, most of which have no security
of their own and will be relying on the police.

Fr Foustine Lobo, coordinator at the Archdiocese of Bangalore, told The Times of India on Sunday that special security measures were in place for the holiday week. “We’ve hired security guards and will also be in touch with the police.”
