Jailed Bible College Students Released
Gospel for Asia
12/9/08 KARNATAKA, INDIA (ANS) — Four GFA Bible college students have been released from jail in Karnataka, India. The four men, all students at GFA’s Karnataka Bible college, had been attacked and brutally beaten before being charged with forcing people to convert to Christianity. They were arrested in late November.
Initial reports from the field indicated that only three students were arrested, but later information revealed there were actually four men being held by police. They were released on December 8.
This is the second time this year that GFA missionaries have been put in jail in Karnataka. In July, four missionaries were brutally beaten, then arrested and charged with forcing people to convert to Christianity and “offending the sentiments of the people.” They were released after spending more than a week in jail.
GFA missionaries in Karnataka ask for prayer. The students need prayer for speedy recovery from their wounds and for grace as they go back out into the field to minister. Additionally, pray for the anti-Christian groups leading the persecution, that the individuals would come to know Christ.
