New Delhi March in Honor of Gandhi’s Birthday Protests Anti-Christian Violence in Orissa

10/2/08 India (International Christian Concern) – Today, October 2, the All India Christian Council (AICC) planned to stage a march in honor of Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday to protest anti-Christian violence in the Indian state of Orissa.

While there appeared to be a lull in the violence at the beginning of this week, the past few days have seen an upsurge again as 300 Christian houses were burned down and at least two Christians were murdered on September 30. Our reports indicate that these attacks occurred in view of the police, who did not take action against the 3,000-person mob perpetrating the violence.

The march was to occur in New Delhi, India, at 1400 hrs (2pm) local time, and proceed from Jantar Mantar to Rajghat.

For all those who were not able to attend, we encourage you to stop at 2pm today to pray for the victims of the anti-Christian violence in Orissa.

Please also consider calling the officials below in India and request them to take immediate action to resolve the situation in Orissa.
