Olympic Athletes to be Offered Bibles

ICC Note:

Just days before the trial of a Christian who owned a bookstore near the Olympic Village in Beijing, a Christian charity is reporting that China has granted them permission to print and make available 50,000 booklets containing the Gospel in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, 10,000 complete Bibles, and 30,000 New Testaments to athletes during the games.

______________

6/18/08 China (GazetteandHerald) Bibles and Gospel booklets printed in China are to be made available to athletes in the Olympic village in Beijing this summer, a Christian charity said today.

The charity, based in Swindon, has helped fund the initiative as part of work by the United Bible Societies, a worldwide grouping.

The scheme has the approval of the Beijing Olympic organising committee, the Bible Society said.

James Catford, Bible Society chief executive, said: “We are privileged to be able to support the Church in China in the publishing of these Bibles and Scriptures for the Beijing Olympics.

“This great sporting event presents a unique opportunity to make the life-changing message of the Bible available to thousands of athletes and visitors from all over China – and all over the world.”
