Another House Church Raided in Beijing

Another Beijing House Church was raided Thursday evening when two officers broke in on a prayer service for the victims of the Sichuan earthquake and for the Beijing Olympics. Fortunately, a China constitutional law scholar was present and convinced the officials to leave after informing them of the Christians’ right to worship under the Chinese constitution and international law.

5/15/08 China (ChinaAid) CAA learned two PSB officer from Beijing broke into a House Church prayer service in Haidian District at 7:30pm on May 15, 2008 Beijing Time. Eyewitness reports that while about a dozen of house church believers were gathering and praying for the victims of the Sichuan earthquake and for Beijing Olympics at the home of renown Beijing Christian rights defender Dr Fan Yafeng, two PSB officers rushed in and declared that meeting as ‘illegal gathering.”

Sources told CAA, as part of pre-Olympics clean-up effort, the Beijing government is planning to launch a severe crackdown campaign by declaring all unregistered house churches as ‘illegal” on June 1, 2008.
