Bauchi gov wants Shariah included in constitution

In the process of introducing Sharia law in Northern Nigeria , thousands of Christians were displaced from their homes, Churches were burned down and many Christians were killed. Mallam Isa Yuguda, a governor of Bauchi State , is calling for constitutional provision that gives legitimacy for Sharia law in the country. Such move by Northern governor is divisive and doesn’t serve the national unity of the country.

April 30, 2008 Nigeria (Nigerian Tribune)-As the National Assembly embarks on the process of amending the 1999 Constitution, the Bauchi State governor, Mallam Isa Yuguda, has called for the support of state houses of assembly and the National Assembly for the enrechment of Shariah in the constitution.

The governor, who made the call while declaring open the third national conference of Sharia implementing states in the country, stated that the support of both states and the National Assembly was necessary to ensure that Shariah was legally entrenched.
