Thousands of Christians Protest Church Attack in Pakistan – UPDATE
3/26/08 Pakistan (International Christian Concern) – ICC has just been informed that the names of the men who led the mob attack on the church on March 18 are Mr. Adnan Gujar, Mr. Muhammad Asghar, Mr. Muhammad Ashraf. In an encouraging development, a local source reports that police have arrested Adnan Gujar. However, the rest of those responsible for the attack are still at large.
Christians in Gujranwala had bought the land on which the church is standing from a Muslim man, Mr. Muhammad Nazir, in 1984. Nazir’s sons were not in favor of this sale, and attempted later to take back the land by squatting on it. This mob attack is the latest in a long struggle. However, the tension is not merely about the property. During the attack on March 18, the mob of Muslims did not content themselves with attacking the Christians, but also shouted insults against Jesus Christ.
