CSW Burma Protest Weds August 8th In London

On Wednesday, 8 August, CSW will remember the 19th anniversary of the nationwide pro-democracy uprising in Burma in which an estimated 3,000 peaceful demonstrators were brutally gunned down by the Burmese military. We (CSW) are writing to ask you to join with the Burmese community in exile in London in a protest at the Burmese Embassy to mark the occasion.

The theme of the protest is “Power to the People”. The organisers have asked people to gather at 12.30pm in Berkeley Square, London W1 (nearest tube: Green Park ). From Berkeley Square, we will march to the Burmese Embassy, at 19a Charles Street, London , W1J 5DX. The protest will take place outside the Embassy between 1pm and 2pm, and will then be followed by lunch at Speaker’s Corner in Hyde Park and a discussion on the future of the struggle for democracy in Burma .

This occasion is one of the most important events in the year for the Burmese democracy movement. It would be a valuable gesture of solidarity if you could join with them on 8 August. If you are not able to be present on the day, please join us in praying for Burma , for the families of those who died in 1988, and for freedom, justice and peace for all the peoples of Burma .
