Missionaries in Orissa, India Attacked

Gospel for Asia
7/17/07 India (ANS) – A Gospel for Asia missionary and two young men from his church were recently attacked by members of a well-known anti-Christian extremist organization.

GFA missionary Durga Gedam was escorting Muste Singh and Babu Khes, two young men from his congregation in Orissa, India, to another part of the state where the men were scheduled to enroll in a GFA Bible college. When the extremists saw the men at a bus stop they grabbed Durga, beat him severely, then dragged him down a mud road where they left him. The fanatics also tried to attack the two men who were with Durga, but they were able to escape.

“When the extremists saw the men at a bus stop they grabbed Durga, beat him severely, then dragged him down a mud road where they left him.”

After a few minutes, the extremists went back to Durga, who was still on the road where they left him. But this time he was able to escape. He struggled 12 miles through the jungle until he came to a larger city. He was able to report the attack to the GFA district pastor before going to his father-in-law’s home. His wife’s family helped him find treatment for his injuries.

Gospel for Asia leaders in Orissa seek prayer for Durga, that he would be completely healed from his injuries. They also ask for prayer for the two young men as they prepare for their first year in Bible College. Lastly, they ask you to pray for the extremists, that they would come to know Jesus as their Savior.
