7/8/07 Nashik, India (Persecution Update India)– Salesian Brother Paulus Kongadi,
a second year student of Divyadaan, Institute of Philosophy, was severely beaten up by a group of unknown persons this morning. He was on his way to Chandsi – a small village about two kilometres from Divyadaan in Nashik. Since the past one year, Bro. Paulus has been visiting the village of Chandsi and interacting with the youth as part of his social outreach project.

Normally every Sunday morning, Bro. Paulus conducts English classes and organizes games for the youngsters of this village. This morning while he was on his way to Chandsi as usual, he was stopped by a group of about six persons and beaten up with hockey sticks and cricket stumps. The assailants then left him by the roadside and fled. Bro. Paulus was later admitted to the District Civil Hospital and a police complaint has been registered. He has sustained severe injuries on his right leg, shoulders and thighs. Although he continues to be in great pain, the doctors have described his condition as stable.
