ICC Note: Vietnam ’s President continues to insist his government does not violate human rights and calls dissidents a “security threat”.

7/1/07 Vietnam (CWNews.com) – The president of Vietnam met with President Bush and members of Congress in Washington, d.c. this week.

But he received a chilly reception from u.s. lawmakers about human rights abuses in Vietnam —
specifically concerning his government’s crackdown on religious freedom.

President Nguyen Minh Triet met behind closed doors with members of Congress to drum up support for strengthened trade ties with the u.s.

Instead, he got an earful of complaints. One congressman says that Triet insisted his country has “lots of human rights” and that dissidents are a security threat, although the Communist leader could not explain how….
