Pastor Arrested, Detained in Jaunpur District, Uttar Pradesh

Global Council of Indian Christians

3/26/07 India (Persecution Update India ) – Pastor Rajendra Chauhan has been ministering in Kundra, his native village, for the past 6-7 years. The ministry has been successful and attracts between 4,000-5,000 people to the Sunday worship every week.

On 25th March 2007, 26 RSS activists complained to the police that Pastor Rajendra Chauhan was engaged in conversion. Police arrested the pastor at noon on the same day. When GCIC Coordinator was informed, he immediately called up the police station and was told that they would only make enquiries and release him, because he was holding these large gatherings without taking any permission from the police. But later that day he was charged under the State Anti-conversion bill and also under Sec.294 A of the IPC.

Bail is being arranged at Jaunpur and it is hoped that the Pastor would be released by the evening of 26th March.

Pray for the speedy and safe release of the Pastor Rajendra Chauhan and for his ministry to go on unhindered by these challenges.
