Chinese Senior Government Official Anti-Bush Article Repudiated in China

2/14/07 China (China Aid Association) CAA also learned that an article harshly criticizing President Bush by a senior Chinese government official was repudiated and censored from Chinese media. On February 2, Mr. Ye Xiaowen, the Director of State Administration of Religious Affairs (SARA) published an article in the front page of the overseas edition of People’s Daily accusing President Bush of instigating religious war in the name of anti-terrorism.

It’s extremely rare for a ministerial level government official to rebuke the head of a foreign state by name. The New York Times published a report about Ye’s article and questioned whether it represented an official standing. According to a Chinese government source, along with all other reports on February 1, Mr. Ye’s article was completely removed from all of the official websites in China .
