Jan, 05 2007 – 4:20 AM

VANCOUVER/CKNW(AM980) – An Iranian refugee, living in sanctuary for over two years has filed new information in another attempt to convince the Canadian Government to allow him to stay in Canada .

41 year old Amir Kazemian has spent 2 and a half years living in sanctuary at St. Michael’s Anglican Church in order to avoid deportation to Iran . Kazemian has been a practicing Christian for almost half his life having converted from Islam shortly after arriving in Canada .

Conversion from Islam to another religion is considered the ultimate sin and is punishable by death in Iran , hence his refugee claim.
If successful, Kazemian will be able to stay in Canada and be close to his elderly mother whose refugee status was accepted.
