Contacts in Asmara have alerted release Eritrea of the arrest of at least fifty children and who were detained in the extensive raids that were conducted in townships in and around Asmara .

In a raid that resulted in over one hundred believers being jailed, last weekend, and previous raids that occurred earlier in October more than fifty children between the ages of 8 months and nine years are said to have been jailed along with their parents, who are accused of being members of the outlawed Churches.

Grave concerns are expressed for their safety and wellbeing, particularly for the emotional and physical torment that they must be under. Release Eritrea contacts in Asmara urged the international community to do their utmost to ensure that the plight of these children is highlighted internationally. The message that came from Asmara stated; ‘Please release the children’s news, everyone is waiting for that. They are children from the age of 8 months to 9 years, do this for Christ’s sake’.

It is to be remembered that On Sunday October 1st 2006 arround 30 people including children were arrested from the house of Mr samson and Mrs Meheret, in Adisogudo whilst gathered for a family celebration. The couple’s three children and 7 other children of friends and family were arrested, at the 4th police station, when 2 tracks full of security officers with guns surrounded the house. All the children were under the age of nine.
