(2006-8-15) The Washington-DC based human rights group, International Christian Concern (ICC)
www.www.persecution.org has just become informed that
on August 7th & 12th of this year, a Christian village (Theki) was attacked by a mob from a neighboring Muslim village (Rajian Arian) [RA] seeking to steal their land even though the Christians have been living there 18 years. This latest incident continues a pattern of attacks on the Christian community whenever there is a perceived attack on the world Muslim community (such as the war in Lebanon ).

The Muslim villagers/attackers have tried numerable times in the last 18 years to take the land by force from the Christians but their efforts have been stymied. In the first week of August, the Muslim leaders of the rival village again violently demanded the land from the Christians and started several riots to evict the Christians.
On the 8/7/2006 the Muslim villagers attacked the Christian village at about 11:30am when the all the males (except 3) were at work in the fields.

The assailants attacked the village, broke the walls of the church, and started beating the women and children there. When the three Christian males left in the village heard their cries, they attempted to protect the women and children and were attacked with a hatchet (one the victims was severely injured and is in the hospital).

On the 12th of August 2006 at about 10:00pm the other villagers attacked again with more force. They attacked the village with firearms and hand grenades. They started beating the female residents and children as the men were away for a local meeting. They tore their clothes and humiliated them. They also attacked the church with hand grenades, setting the church and some houses on fire.

Present situation:

Presently the situation at the village Theki is still very tense. The women and children are terrified by what had happened to them. The police are trying to arrest the attackers (approximately 30 in all).

ICC has seen that whenever there is an issue or incident in the world that is perceived as anti-Muslim, as the war in Lebanon , or the Dutch Mohammed cartoons, etc it is the Christians who suffer in Pakistan .

ICC urges those concerned to call the Pakistani embassy officials in their country of residence and ask for protection for the villagers of Moman Pura Theki (in Sheikhupura District).
