A NEW report by the MP David Drew reveals the extent of the persecution and intolerance shown towards non-Muslim groups in Central and Northern Nigeria . The report, officially launched in Westminster yesterday, summarizes a fact-finding mission by the MP who visited the country with Christian Solidarity Worldwide earlier this year. It reveals how non-Muslims are currently facing discrimination in gaining employment, education, access to burial grounds and to public services in some Nigerian States. The report relates accounts of organized violence, extrajudicial killings, child abduction and the vulnerability of people who convert from Islam.

Commenting on the report, CSW Advocacy Director, Alexa Papadouris says: “The severe repression currently underway in parts of northern and central Nigeria is a direct contravention of the Nigerian Constitution. While the Constitution enshrines the right to freedom of religion and equality before the law, these rights are being denied to many in the northern and central states in Nigeria .
