D.C. Celebrates Religious Freedom Day

CBN News- Capitol Hill

ICC NOTE: Four representatives from ICC had the opportunity to attend this conference on Capitol Hill yesterday, June 20th. The conference lasted for roughly four hours, yet this was hardly enough time for all the speakers to fully express to the audience what they had to say about religious freedom. Many of the speeches given by the panel members left the audience captivated and inspired. Overall, the ICC was impressed with quality of speakers present and the messages they shared about the importance of religious freedom.

June 21 – WASHINGTON – It was an unusual day on Capitol Hill, where liberals and conservatives actually agreed on something.

Both political parties put their differences aside to bring greater awareness to those who are religiously oppressed during a half-day forum titled “Religious Freedom Day on Capitol Hill.”

The event was hosted by Sen. Rick Santorum (R- PA), and featured speakers such as U.N. Ambassador John Bolton and Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom John Hanford.

At first glance, it might have looked like a typical conference. But it was not. There was emotion and passion in the room. Forum leaders argued for religious freedom around the world.

In a symbolic move, the forum took place on Capitol Hill because leaders wanted to highlight the nation’s belief that government should not prohibit the free exercise of religion.

Such religious freedom is just a pipe dream in many countries, but organizers hoped that shining a spotlight on the problem would be a good start to spreading that belief.
