ICC note– Pope Benedict had recently expressed his concern over the intolerance against Christians by Hindu militants. A controversy following this had prompted the government to conduct a study on Christian complaints. News of Christian persecution is now pouring in from everywhere.

Pastor beaten up in Punjab

(AICC) 6/2/2006- The Ministry of Minority Religious Affair had called for the Minority Commission to check attacks against Christians after Pope Benedict XVI’s remarks about the growing atrocities against the Christian minority in India. Since then, news of Christian persecution has been pouring in from every corner of the country, one of them being the attack on a pastor in Punjab .

Pastor Harbans Lal of Happy Life Prosperity Church from Pangila village in Kaputhala district of Punjab was attacked on 1 June 2006 by a group of 15 to 20 people. He was badly beaten up and is now admitted in a hospital in Ludhiana with serious injuries. [Go to Full Story]
