Uzbekistan Closes Churches

ICC: Uzbek Authorities Announced yesterday that they have closed down two Protestant churches (a Seventh-Day Adventist church and a Protestant church in Samarkand ) . The stated reason was for violating the country’s law on religious organizations. The churches were closed reportedly for illegal proselytizing local residents.

Uzbek authorities have begun a campaign to shut down foreign aid organizations and media outlets since last year’s military crackdown in Andijon.
