(Forum 18) – Pentecostal Kural Bekjanov is still being held at a police station in the capital Tashkent with no progress on the investigation into whether he was connected to the murder of a US citizen in the city. “We are convinced of his innocence, and our suspicion is that his religious beliefs are the reason for his ordeal,” Iskander Najafov, a lawyer for the Full Gospel Church , told Forum 18 News Service. But Shukhrat Ismailov of the government’s religious affairs committee denied this, telling Forum 18 church members’ claims were “pure speculation”. Since his arrest on 14 June, Bekjanov has been tortured by police and cell mates trying to force him to abandon his Christian faith.

Here's what one reader shared:
"The Last Words of the Martyrs tell the courageous stories of people who are committed and dependent on our Lord in ways few in the West have ever been. Even more importantly for us in the church, to "translate" what occurred into lessons for us to better understand, and then apply in our walk with the Lord. One lesson is that God uses what is clearly evil, and builds His Church in persecuted areas of the world. Many in the West have become too comfortable in our ease, busyness, and distractions to even consider getting out of our comfort zone to be salt and light for Jesus, to our dark and darkening culture, to reach out to people that God loves to be reconciled to."
