(BosNewsLife) – Security forces in Orissa were preparing for a new period in their history Wednesday, June 29, after the government appointed a Christian as the new police chief of the tense Indian state. In a statement obtained by the BosNewsLife Orissa Bureau, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said Suchit Das, who converted to Christianity, would be “the new Director General of Police of Orissa.” The announcement was expected to be welcomed by Christian advocacy groups, who have accused police of not doing enough to end what they see as growing Hindu violence against individual believers, church leaders and missionaries. However the influential Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a nationalist Hindu party, reportedly expressed “reservations” about the planned appointment of Das he is a Christian convert. But its objections were overruled by chief minister Patnaik, BosNewsLife established.

Here's what one reader shared:
"The Last Words of the Martyrs tell the courageous stories of people who are committed and dependent on our Lord in ways few in the West have ever been. Even more importantly for us in the church, to "translate" what occurred into lessons for us to better understand, and then apply in our walk with the Lord. One lesson is that God uses what is clearly evil, and builds His Church in persecuted areas of the world. Many in the West have become too comfortable in our ease, busyness, and distractions to even consider getting out of our comfort zone to be salt and light for Jesus, to our dark and darkening culture, to reach out to people that God loves to be reconciled to."
