(Compass) – Gunmen opened fire on the Believers Church in Lamding, Thoubal district, Manipur state, on May 29. Approximately 30 Christians gathered at the church that night were unharmed. When police refused to register a complaint on the following day, church members submitted a memorandum to local officials, asking that the chief minister of Manipur ensure protection for the church. The attack was the fourth in eight months; previous attacks took place on November 23, 2004; March 8, 2005; and April 19, 2005. On February 3, the court ordered local police to provide a security guard, but protection has been irregular at best.

Khan is a courageous Christian convert who was forced to flee Afghanistan after the Taliban takeover that practically sentenced all Christians to death.
Despite this abrupt action, Khan hid his faith from his family in this extremely dangerous situation. Refugees in Iraq often do not have enough to live on, so ICC provided Khan and his family with necessities in this time. This is just one of many ways that our Afghanistan Crisis Emergency Fund is used to combat the Taliban persecution.
