(Compass) – The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) in Bauchi state, Nigeria , re-opened on February 28 under tight security and without meeting the demands of Christian leaders who sought prosecution of the murderers of a Christian student and reinstatement of five other Christians expelled for conducting an evangelistic outreach. The school was closed after Muslims attacked Christians in December 2004, resulting in the brutal murder of Sunday Nache Achi, an evangelical student leader on the ATBU campus. Meanwhile in Plateau state, the Church of Christ in Nigeria claimed that the last four years of religious violence has destroyed over 200 churches, killed 84,000 people and destroyed about 225 Christian schools. The three-million member church is experiencing the darkest moment in its 100 years of existence.
