(AsiaNews) – A Saudi court has held its first hearing on charges against a Christian man who has been imprisoned for six months for practicing his faith, the AsiaNews service reports. Brian Savio O’Connor, a Protestant from India who was working in Saudi Arabia , was arrested in March by the Saudi Mutawwa or religious police. He was reportedly tortured and told that he must abjure his faith. O’Connor is charged with preaching the Gospel: a criminal offense in Saudi Arabia . He is also charged with drug use, alcohol sales, and pornographic– charges which he insists have been fabricated to ensure that he will remain in prison for his beliefs.
