(ICC) Islamic militants struck at police stations and checkpoints as well as army bases in the troubled Muslim south of the country (Yala Province). Fighting has been going on for months but this was the heaviest fighting so far. Fighting went on for 5 hours after the first shootings began at 5 am. It appears that most of the dead and wounded are Islamic militants.

Farhan ul-Qamar, a 20-year-old Christian man, was shot and killed in his home two weeks ago by a Muslim extremist claiming hatred toward both Christians and Jews. The incident is another example of the growing religious intolerance in Pakistan.

Gunmen abducted more than 100 people from the Mutunji community in northwest Nigeria for not paying a tax imposed by the bandits. A leader in the community was also killed, according to locals.
