According to a Vietnamese party newspaper, the bishop backs the crackdown against Catholics. Concerns are mounting that another wave of repression against the population is going to take place after local residents lost their homes and the church cemetery to a government land grab.

12 months for two of the accused, 9 for the other four. The trial lasted only one day and the defendants had no defense because, as a source of the People's Court explained, the decision had already been decided and approved by local authorities and the Communist Party.

President of Justice and Peace intervenes to ask "why the government is putting the peaceful parishioners Con Dau in the current tragic situation, which has resulted in one death, numerous arrests, others who have lost all their property and dozens of people who have had to flee to other countries".
