The following are excerpts from an article published by the Indonesian Muslim organization Rahmat Islam Terhadap Orang Kafir, justifying actions taken by the Muslim Jihad to attack Christians.

Challenge to the Islamic Community
About the Danger of Christianization

For decades, Indonesian Muslims have been able to boast about being described as “the biggest Muslim community in the world.” Based on a survey Between Censuses (Supas) carried out by the Central Bureau of Statistics in 1990, it was recorded that of 200 million people, the percentage of Moslems was 87.3% (rounded off to 90%). Christian Protestants were only 6%, Catholics 3.6%, Hindus 1.8%, Buddhists 1% and other religions 0.3%.

We should not be dazzled by these numbers. Furthermore the latest figures record that the number of Muslims has drastically decreased from 90% to 75% (Siar tabloid edition No 43, 18-24 November 1999, page 14). [ICC: It is clear that Muslim fundamentalists are fearful about the increasing number of Muslims who, praise God, are embracing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.]

The success of the Christianization program has been carried out unceasingly, day by day, increasing in its sophistication and not adhering to the code of ethics for propogating religion. [ICC: Code of ethics? Are killing, maiming, destroying churches and homes part of the “code of ethics?”]

One thing that is a vital principle in Islamic Law (syariah Islam) and must be known by every Muslim, is that their loyalty can only be given to God and His apostle together with the Muslim people. Also they must have a fervent attitude (disregarding self and full of hate) towards the heathen who are the enemies of their religion.

Therefore to give loyalty to heathen in public is something that is absolutely forbidden…….

RESCUE OPERATIONS CONTINUE IN INDONESIA

ICC’s Project Rescue, which was launched in January of 2001 to help evacuate more than 7,000 Christians being held against their will by Muslims, has so far been successful in rescuing approximately 1000 people. Large-scale boat rescues have proven difficult to carry out. Even if the Christians know that a boat is coming, many of them are afraid to meet the boat for fear that they will be caught before they can escape. Those caught attempting escape can be severely punished or killed.

Some Christians have secretly escaped from their Muslim captors. Once out of the village these Christians find their way to one of the refugee camps. Often they cannot take spouses or children with them, as this would look too suspicious. ICC has been helping to provide the money needed by Christian hostages to arrange for their escape. Many have been forced not only to leave behind loved ones, but also all their property and possessions.

In one village, where many Christians are trapped, several unfriendly military officers and Islamic religious leaders are keeping a close eye on the Christians. Thus, it is particularly difficult for Christians in this village to escape. Though the Christians in this village have been forced to convert to Islam, it is reported that as many as 500 people attend secret church meetings in the jungle. A few people in this village have been forcibly taken to Jakarta by Muslims.

A recent government report indicates that around 55,000 homes have been destroyed since violence between Muslims and Christians began in 1999. In addition, 448 houses of worship, 241 schools, and 260 offices have been razed. The majority of these buildings were located in the Maluku province.
